Does FIXMBR only update the MBR Partition loader code? FIXBOOT?

I read that FDISK /MBR only updates the Partition Loader Code (the first 446 bytes), not the partition table (the last 64 bytes).  Thus, it won't help when the partition table has problems.

Does FIXMBR work the same way and only update the MBR Partition loader code?

How about FIXBOOT - does that only replace the partition's boot sector code and ignore the volume table containing that partition's disk characteristics (sectors, clusters...)?

PS - the math doesn't add up:  If the MBR Partition Loader Code is 446 bytes, and the partition table is 64 bytes, that's 512 bytes = the sector size.  Is the last 2 bytes 55AAh (signature) part of the partition table?
