Laptop not accessing the Internet

I have been using my laptop which is a Toshiba with intel pentiumIV having win XP OS, on an internet connection through a linux server firewall and a switch on one LAN, the other has 2hubs it's been working properly on either LAN afew days back.
It's not accessing the internet, yet it can be seen on the network by the other computers which are in the same work group on this LAN and I can access any other computer on the network,tried changing IP configuration properties in vain.
The ethernet card I have in this laptop is intel(R)PRO/100VE.

But then when I use these same settings for another laptop of similar make the connection is fine.
Im puzzled.
Thanks in  advance.

Ok...so your laptop is the only one on this LAN not getting out onto the Internet?

Go to Start ==> Run ==> type IPCONFIG /all > c:\log.txt

and copy the contents of that log here.

Can you ping IP addresses from the laptop?  or do you just open IE?
make sure you default gateway and dns settings (if any) are correct. try to ping the default gateway or dns and see what you get. if you can ping the gateway but cant getout of it with IE, make sure you have put in the proxy settings (if any) etc.

diggisaur; when I use "IPCONFIG /all > c:\log.txt" it returns me to c:\> with no content listed.

krakken; I have just been opening IE,but when I ping still request times out.

nazirahmed; My default gateway and DNS settings are correct, when I ping the gateway or DNS request times out.The proxy settings atleast are similar to the comps on the same network.

so am still in amaze.thanks anyway.
Check your C: drive it should have created a file called log.txt with all your IP information. PAste it here.

Yeah, diggisaur;
This is what the created log file contains:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : URA
Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter LANconnection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-39-AB-DF-85
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.115
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
Okay. I see you are using a manually configured IP. Is there no DHCP service available on your network? If therre is have you tried changing it to DHCP? Maybe your manual configuration is wrong or old.

You also have 192.168.2.1 specified as your default gateway and DNS. Can you ping this address?

Start ==> Run ==> "cmd' and click ok.
Type "ping 192.168.2.1"

Get responses?

Are the other clients on the network configured with the same DNS and default gateway. Double check them.

Have you tried using a different IP address or computer name to check if there are any conflicts. With manual IP settings like this the chance of IP conflicts is great.

<<when I ping the gateway or DNS request times out>>>
i think thats the problem, double check these settings? did you try to ping other clients on the network?

diggisaur;
on pinging "192.168.2.1"
request times out and yes the other clients have the same DNS and gateway
With the DHCP service I ve tried to change to that, didnt work.
Then with the manual config. I have nt changed anything from when it was working before, unless there is something locking me out through the server firewall do know if that's possible.
nazirahmed;
when I ping any other client on this network it work alright.

So you can't switch it to DHCP? It doesn't get an IP?

1/. Try reinstalling you card with updated drivers from the manufacturers website.

2/. If it is PCMCIA card try using a different slot.

Would it be safe/ok to try and change the laptop's MAC address that's i think possible I hope.

because I don't imagine  if it where a problem with the NIC card settings, it would be able to access the services/facilities available on the network, such as printing and other shared files.
Can the problem be with the linux server, having blocked the current MAC address of this Laptop.Since I have tried out similar IP settings on a different laptop, the connection was up and running.
Changing your MAC address depends on the card. Some let you change part of it and some not at all.

If there is MAC filtering on your Linux server or router/gateway you should really change it there.

I tried to change the MAc address.
Yes I managed to changed it, but still am unable to browse the internet, what am still researching about is how I can check for the MAC filtering on the linux server.

<<<right...if you can ping the other clients on the network, and still cant ping the router or dns..i still think its  your configuration. just to see if the tcp stack got some issues, run the following on the xp
