Cannot start Information Store Service after recovering data and getting the server back to working condition

This is a separate problem that is proably related to what has gone on here:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20981801/M-volume-dismounted.html

As you can see from the post above, my database was corrupted and I did a hard restore on it and got it working again.  I left it backing up for the night but the backup encountered an error 60% of the way through so it did not fully backup.  However, I do have copies of the .edb files so I should be able to recover my data.

Early this morning, I ran into a new problem which I did not have previously.  The information store service shut down and will not start again!

It gives me the error:
Rel. 4417.5
Jet Exception: Function "JetInitEx( Pinstance, Null, 0,grbit.)" raised excpetion 0xc0000005(EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 0x78010067
PID: 4684, TID: 4556

Then it gives me a 1053 error

Then I get the following errors in the application log: 7031, 7001, 7022.  Which essential say the service hung while starting.

I also get a event is 26 error which is something like listed above.

I tried reinstalling the exchange components from the CD.  That gives me an "unspecified error" when installing the system tools.

What should I do??
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips!  That is very good to know!  I am running the defrag on them now.

Unfourantly, My information store will not start again :(  I am not sure what is going on.  But I am going to get my databases in pristine condition, then work on getting the service started.  that way if i get the service going, I can mount them immediatly and take a good backup.

Virus scan is defintly not scanning the M:.

If you have any ideas or tips on getting my information store service started again, they would be appreciated!
Ok, I got the store service running again :)  Thanks for your patience with me here.  I am a newbie to this, but learning a lot from my mistakes fast!

I ran another /p on my databases :(  No other choice from what I did, then I ran defrag on them.  I did this on public and private.  After doing this, I was able to start the service.  I immediatly, dismounted them and ran the isinteg tool on them a couple of times.  I then mounted them again and am now runing the exmerge utility to extract all the data as a pst file just in case.

But since I have run the defrag on them, as I understand what you said, the databases should now be clean and safe for production.

If i have any further problems, I will immediatly create new databases and import my pst files.  Plus now I will start nightly backups

Thanks a bunch for all of your help and patience!
Did you run the /p AFTER you ran the defrag?  If so, you need to run the defrag again.  ALWAYS defrag after a /p.

Check the event logs - usually it will tell you if it's missing a log file, which is what it sounds like may be happening.  It's not just the M drive you need to exclude - you need to exclude the MDBDATA folder where the databases are AND the log files (if not in the same directory) as well.  I exclude the entire EXCHSRVR directory, but that's personal preference.

Exmerging is fine - but unless we can find out why it keeps going corrupt - ESPECIALLY after running a defrag, which is a new database - I don't think it's going to solve your problem.  Check the other antivirus exclusions first - it's a good place to start.
I ran the defrag AFTER I ran the /p.  But thanks for pointing that out! :)

I was NOT excluding the MDBDATA folder from the virus scan!  This may have been the problem.  Strangely though, I have been doing this for the past 2 years without a single problem.  I went ahead and excluded the EXCHSRVR direcertory per your suggestion.

I also noticed in my virus settings I had a place for "Real Time Scanning for Exchange E-mail".  This was disabled before, so I went ahead and enabled it.    Is this anything I should be concerend about?

Thank you soooo much for you help!  Your tips were very helpful!

SIDE NOTE: I came in this morning and the MTA stacks service had stopped, i started it and everything is fine. Did not even have to remount the drives.  After this i changed my virus settings.  But no information store problems or corrupt databases....so everything is looking better.  I will keep a close eye on it and keep you posted.
Yeah, it's funny - when I worked at Microsoft people used to tell me all the time - "It CAN'T be the anti-virus, I've been running it like this for 3 years without a problem."

And I'd think, "Man, you're a lucky SOB!"  That's the way it works - and if you understand the transaction based nature of Exchange or SQL, it makes sense.  The antivirus sees all that activity going on and thinks it's a virus.

Your "Real Time scanning for Exchange"  will safely scan the logs and databases without corrupting them - that's a VERY good thing to have.

Depending on what your anti-virus is set up to do, sometimes you can find the missing log file in the quarantine, restore it to it's normal location, and get things working immediately without having to do the entire /p and /d.   If the AV deletes it, well....that's another story!
More woes :(  My MTA Stacks service keeps stopping.  Just did it again.  When i try to start it, it fails and does not return an error.  I can restart my information store sucesfully.

Any ideas?  I am restarting my server now.
Ok, I think I figured this latest problem out.  During this whole process I took a few backups and it took up a lot of space.  I notice in my application log I was getting a disk space problem for MTA data.  I check my file space on the server after restart and it was much lower than it was previously showing before the reboot.  2mb free :(

I just freed up quite a few gigs so that should solve the problem.

Please excuse my posts here that I sometimes solve myself.

Your tips have been INVALULABLE!
Nice job!  Glad I could help - makes the pain of having gone through it before a little easier.

Now it is your turn, grasshopper, to pass on the knowledge....
I certainly will do :)

Thanks again!
