DSL Connection Drops Upon Phone Pickup or Incoming Call - Filters Already Applied

We have a DSL connection with a recurring problem: whenever we have an incoming telephone call or make an outgoing call, our DSL service cuts out completely for a period of about 45 seconds.  The connection drops immediately when a telephone is picked up; immediately when a telephone call is answered; and also after the fifth ring of incoming calls (this is when our telephone service is answered by our phone company's voice mail system).

These "hiccups" wouldn't be such a big deal if we weren't online gamers - these 45 second drops are VERY disruptive.  We have purchased and installed Radio Shack ADSL filters on all lines (except for the DSL line itself) and this made not a bit of difference.

I suspect this is the ISP's problem, but their customer service has been very unhelpful.  Is there anything in particular I can ask them to check, and anything else I can try on my end before speaking with customer service again?
