Only 1/2 memory indicated

I have an older eMachines Tower 333c (Win 98SE). It's manual states: " Memory Configuration
            •      System Memory
                  - Two banks of 3.3V EDO/SDRAM (168pin unbuffered DIMM) with max 256MB
                  - EDO/SDRAM operation in 66MHz front side bus and 100MHz SDRAM with 100MHz FSB.
            •      Flash Memory      : Programmable 2MB Flash memory"

I'm finding that when installing SDRAM, the system is only showing a portion of the ram (50% or less). What can be done?

doleslie,

Thanks for the accepted answer, but why the C grade?  That is usually given when an unacceptable answer is given, and we haven't heard any clarification from you.

The answer given was based upon my opinion that the answer was not a direct answer, but rather a referral to a 3rd party. By the way, I'm still not convinced that the problem is memory. But, since the system is an older one, I may just change out the motherboard. I had tried at least 5 distinctly different sticks of memory with no change whatever. Thanks for your answer.
Ok, you could have left the question open and asked for clarification, and I would have provided it.  FYI, this issue has been seen before, here on Experts-Exchange: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20459790/128MB-ram-module-read-only-64.html
