MS Visual Studio SP5 vs SP6

Last Modified: 2013-11-13
I was advised to upgrade to Microsofts Visual Studio Service Pack 6.  I have been using Service Pack 5 for quite a while.  I have 2 questions:

1.  Since some of my users already have my VB apps compiled with SP5, if I issue a software upgrade and the VB apps are compiled with SP6, do I have to re-distribute the SP6 runtime modules too or will the VB SP6 apps still work on systems that have SP5 runtime modules?

2.  Will apps compiled with SP5 work properly if the SP6 runtime modules are installed?

I know it's always best to keep the compiled versions matched with runtime modules, but I need to know the above re:support issues.

Please advise.
