Last Modified: 2011-08-18
Recently my computer has been giving me this error message when I boot it up

Alert! System battery voltage is low.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 8300 and it is only a few months old.  How can I fix this problem so my computer stops receiving this error message?

Thats like a penny for us British.

Be warned that when you do this, unless your quick, your BIOS settings will all default to the... <looks for alternate word> ...well, the default settings.

The batteries are usually good for a fair old time even under constant use, but you can get the odd one that plays dead a bit early. Don't force it out either - jewellers screwdrivers are good for this I find, unless it has some neat 'eject battery' type lever/gizmo.

HTH - Peace

Not much to add, actually, but a note about battery life:
The SHELF life of a LiIon battery is around 10 yrs. Those batteries may have spent several years in storage before getting mounted on mobos. A seemingly premature failure is probably just quite natural.... as the "on-board" life expectancy is very  close to shelf life. The current drain is very small...
Open up your case (UNLESS IT IS UNDER WARRANTY THAN DO NOT OPEN IT)  www.dell.com  there next to the processor is a little silver battery, looks like a camera battery.  Take it to you're local hardware store and have them match it if you don't know what kind it is.  Otherwise just order it online if you do know.
Oh yea i guess they already said that.  Cherr-io good luck with it

Thank you much.    : )
Bingo!  Susantoo's suggested URL is very useful.  Thanks.
