I have setup amavisd-new with out email syatem which is currently using postfix, spamassassin, and cyrusimap.

I am currently using the free ClamAV virus scanner which seems to work well.

1) Does anyone else use ClamAV?
2) How good is it at detecting viruses compared to commercial products?
3) Are there any virus checkers you would recomend to run in addition to ClamAV?
I believe if you configure multiple virus checkers amavisd-new will check attachments against all of them?

1) Yes...:-)
2) I use ClamAV in conjunction with MailScanner (not amavisd-new, but similar in scope/function ... http://www.mailscanner.info)... And use McAfee AV too. Mostly because we already pay for it, so it was a no-cost addition for us, but also for the added bonus of having two engines/sets of signatures ... This way I'm more insulated. Sometimes ClamAV is first with detecting viruses, sometimes McAfee... And sometimes neither do... Which is when it's good to have some filetype/filename blocking too;-). Thus far it's abot 50-50 who comes first... Perhaps a very slight edge to McAfee.
3) Any! See above... At least two different scanners, would be a prudent config... I'm currently lobbying for a third (sophos or perhaps f-secure... Or antivir, trend, nod32, command, ... even norton:-)... As said, any will do.
Don't know too well about amavisd-new, but that is very true for MS.

Thanks. We are just switching over to using clamav and spamassasin as our only email scanning service. We are going to try it for a couple of weeks and then switch back to messagelabs and also try their spam filtering solution.
