JVM and JIT

Hi

I have to write a report on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and how it works. Also how it compares when the Just In Time (JIT) Compiler is used. I have found information on the JVM but I am havig a touch time finding much good information on the JIT Compiler. I know what the JIT is, and what it does, but dont really know how it works.

If anyone can refer me to any resources (books or websites) I can look at to do the research for my report, I would appreciate it.
