What is "Active Directory Forest"?

I am trying to make a mac. 10 join a windows domain. In a stage, I need to enter the "Active Directory Forest", I am not sure what it is, I tried to use the windows server name, it would take it.
Thanks!

Depending on your Active Directory structure Forest and Domain may be the same.

Do you know how your Domain is named? How many computers do you have in you domain?

On your Windows Server (if it is an Domain Controller, respectively if you have a Domain), open "Active Directory Users and Computers" from "Administrative Tools" and you will see your Domain name. If you have more than one Domain go to "Active Directory Domains and Trusts" and you will see your Forest/Domain. If only one entry available then your Forest = Domain, if not, the very top item is your Forest and below that there is your Domain.

I may have this backwards, but I believe that Forrests are nothing more than sub-domains.  For example, your Corporate domain could be JohnsonWidgets.com.  Your local domain, while inside of JohnsonWidgets.com is SarasotaSprings.com.  If you had a webpage on your local domain (eg SarasotaSprings.com) it would be accessible from the internet at www.johnsonwidgets.sarasotasprings.com.  I'm pretty sure that is how it works, but not positive.  Hope this gives you some direction at least ot look for the answer.
