You can open as many child forms as you want under the "umbrella" of the MDI form. In addition, you can open non-child forms as well. These will simply be on top of the MDI and the child form. There is no special code for that. Simply show the forms that you want to show by using:

myForm.Show
myOtherForm.Show
myDifferentForm.Show
myTotalyDifferentForm.Show

Once several forms are open, then you can arrange teh CHILD forms within the workspsace of the MDI form, by using:
myMDIForm.Arrange vbCascade
or
myMDIForm.Arrange vbTileHorizontal
etc...

The result would be that child forms would open within the workspace of the MDI forms, and the non-child would float on top, depending on their Top and Left properties.

Hope this is what you meant :)
