Vb 6 and Telnet

I was wondering if someone has a sample code which uses a microsoft winsock to telnet to a server or host system, login with username and password, then issue some commands get  some data from host and then show them or process the data. This is not a a gui app where the usere will type in some info and interact with system but rather a code based script which should do all this in background.
I am trying to write a function which ultimatly will log in to a cisco router and retrive the status of some ports...
