Damage install disc need files lost after MS update

I used MS update for my win2000 everything when fine. However I have lost all my Network Icons and the on line images dosn't show on the task bar anymore. Tried to reinstall but asks for Install CD then can't find all files on CD I am thinking my disc is damaged as visual inspection show this as a possiblity. If so apart form try and locate another Win2000 Cd to borrow What can I do a search of my HD cannot finds any trace. greg

What files is it looking for?  have you tried telling it to look in the system32 directory?

Hi jmendoza1,

Yes tried looking there it is not asking for any files specifically. The system loads perfectly no glitches I can go on line without any problem. I just can't get a status icon to tell me if I get disconnected or slowdowns. And all the icons in the network folder are goooone so I can't add a new connection to see if that works. If  I go to the install network on the CD it can't find the files on my HD or CD. Very frustrating if not catastrophic. Even thought the system runs fine and as I said if I open IE a connection box comes up I can conect no worries but a soon as the connecting process finnishes bingo no icons anywhere. Greg
