Place a semi-transparent div layer over the entire screen?

Im showing an error message (with an absolutely positioned div) and i want to shade the HTML behind it to prevent the user from clicking on anything.  Similar to the behavior of a modal window.  Im able to create the transparent div, but i cant set the height and width properly in CSS to always be 100%.  The problem is: when I increase the size of the browser window, the shaded div doesnt stretch.  Any ideas?

Hi

http://javascript.about.com/library/scripts/blmodaldialog.htm has a script that mimics this. If you don't want to use that script, I can analyze it and see how it makes the background shade the whole thing.

Excellent.  Worked as advertised.  Even saved me the trouble of writing the script.  I need to start thinking a little more about what i type into Google.  Either that or come up with harder questions...
