Windows Help script errors

When I try to use the Windows Help, I get the following problem:

Open Help.
Search for an item, eg. emergency repair disk
Double click a sub-item in the LH pane, eg. creating; info is displayed in the RH pane.
Click a link in the RH pane, eg. Backup; the following window opens:

Internet Explorer Script Error

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line:      592
Char:      9
Error:      Object doesn't support this property or method
Code:      0
URL:      mk:@MSITStore:C\WINNT\Help\ASR.chm::/recovery_create_erd.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Clicking Yes or No closes the window.

ASR.chm (and all the other files) are in the correct place.

The window seems to indicate a limited number of lines - 443 often, 592 often, 489, 519 - and always character 9.

Some links work OK - eg. employers - product support services, first option.

Can anyone suggest a reason and a cure?

Try this

Open IE

go to tools --> internet options --> advanced and

a) check "disable script debugging"
b) uncheck "Disable a notification about every script error"
c) Uncheck "Show friendly HTTP error messages"

Press OK . Close IE
Now open Help and check

I have got an answer from a MS newsgroup and it fixes the problem; here it is:

Try unregistering and then re-registering the HTML Help ActiveX
control (hhctrl.ocx). To do this, open a Command Prompt window and
enter the following two commands:

regsvr32 /u <drive>:\winnt\system32\hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 <drive>:\winnt\system32\hhctrl.ocx

By the way, the problem applied to links in Word Help too.
