Hi I have a LaserJet 4 Plus and I have bought 4 x 16MB EDO SIMMS. When I placed them into the printer I get this error code 53.00.02. I have taken each memory module out and placed them individually and still the same message, can anyone help?

The 53.00.02 code is for unsupported memory, while the LaserJet4+ can take 16MB SIMMS, they must be Fast Paging, 70ns, NON parity SIMMS that have the present detect signal enabled.

This page :>  http://www.shawnbehrens.de/hpmem.htm is the best explanation of HP memory I've ever seen, and may contain a workaround. I'm guessing that your EDO RAM is 60ns and must be "slowed down" to 70ns in order to work.

you have to admit though, those "elderly" laserjets just refuse to die! Still running the basic LF4 myself :-)

Cheers!

Yeah, I have never had a more reliable beast of a printer, I have had it ages and it has never let me down, just keeps on ticking, even when I dropped it when moving it a few months ago!!

Faster memory should be fine, but if presence detect is not correct, then they wont work at all.
