Event 8003

Yesterday, I completely reinstalled my laptop 'STEELMOBILE' ... some weird things were happening this morning (after I logged in to the domain via a VPN), including the 'primary' DC becoming totally unavailable (which includes our SQL Server)

I came in to the office and rebooted the DC and things were ok. Checking the logs, I've just seen this come up which worries me

"The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer STEELMOBILE that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{4E667D27-4359-4F. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced. "

How can STEELMOBILE, which is an XP Pro laptop, believe it is the Master Browser ???

Fairly urgent !

Thanks

S.S.

To make sure your Win2k/XP based computer doesn't try to become the master browser, open the registry editor, and set
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSetXXX\Services\BSrowser\Parameters\MaintainServerList"

to...
FALSE
on Windows 2000
NO
on Windows XP

Thanks Pete ... why on earth it suddenly decided this is beyond me - i've added lots of XP machines recently with no such problems.

I hate these 'random' things - it really undermines what little confidence I have in the damn things anyway :)

Thanks again,
