Hello,
I have a scene that I am using text to mask a picture and I am getting the effect I desire.  The problem is that as a standard in all of my scenes I have created a mask that mask the stage to create a widescreen effect.  So in essence I have 2 mask in this one scene.  I need that widescreen mask to mask the stuff in the text mask as well.  Is there a way to nest masks?

thanks

One way that you could do this is by making a separate movie clip containing the movie clip and text mask, which is then masked by your 'widescreenMask'.

However, if you are doing a lot of masking and it must be done dynamically, you might prefer to use the '.setMask()' command.

Used in frame script, it could look something like this:

_root.attachMovie("new_mc", "mc_linkage", _root.getNextHighestDepth(),{_x:Number(Stage.width/2), _y:Number(Stage.height/2)}))
_root.new_mc.setMask("myMask_mc")

this way, you can target any timeline that you want and attach movieClips at different depths to give a masking effect.
