Can't run install

When installing some software recently, I get the following message:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. The cause may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753".

I am installing the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator Version 1.05a. The install file is initiator-x86fre-1.05a.msi.

I am wondering if one of the install files is damaged or deleted. Does anyone know what Microsoft files are required for this type of install?

Is there an XP version of Windows Installer? I hate to load the 2000 version that may have limited capability on XP.

I did a system restore and I found that I had two copies of Microsoft Initiator installed. Both were version 1.04a. I was able to remove the first copy but not the second. The reason I couldn't uninstall the 2nd was because when I uninstalled the 1st, it removed a file required for the uninstall.

So I ran the repare option to repare the 2nd 1.04a (which was now the only one left). After that, I was able to remove 1.04a. Now I am able to install 1.05a.

Thanks for your input.
