Is the built in ntbackup.exe that comes with windows 2003 server an adequate backup utility.
It seems to include all the things i need like shadow copy for open files / system state backup / exchange message store backup.

What can't this software do ??

I have windows 2003 + exchange 2003 (on the same single server) with an 80GB DLT drive. I dont need to backup anything else not on this server.

The tapedrive came with Tapeware 7.0 but It needs an exchange backup agent and an open file backup agent to do complete backups.

Thanks.

The main things it doesn't do are ;
1. individual mailbox backups. however with exchange 2003 these have been handled by exchange and the recover mailbox feature so no biggie there.
2. Nice reporting thats easy to read through. no biggie again just means it's easier to read log files and locate errors etc
For what you are describing it sounds like you might be ok with just ntbackup ... it is good for the basic backup and if you havent got remote agents, sql servers and exchange agents to worry about it makes fiscal sense too.

Cheers.
