Hello there,
I bought a Sun E450 to use as a storge unit after I got it I knew that the unit is a server and i do have Microsoft windows  network and  I never had any experiences with SUN before,
Now I am thinking Can I install linux? if yes which one is the best to connect to windows 2003 and act as accesable shared hard drive?
Or I have to install Solaris software,
what is the best way to use it as a storge unit for our files DBF?
or it is better to return it and get my money back? We paid $850 in it
What you do if you are in my place?
thanks a lot

Hi,

I don't think you can install linux on this unless someone has produced a special distro for SUN hardware. Just install Solais 7 or 8 or 9, and install samba to allow windows boxes to connect to your storage. There are plenty of packages available for solaris, and it's very stable (more so than linux..just because it's designed to run on sparc hardware and not generic as linux is). Overall I'd say you got a bargin, so stick with it.
