1053 means failure to sart quickly enough.

Did you download the source and re-build it under XP?

Look at your friend's 2K installation to see if the service has any dependencies you may be missing.

when i instaled it as a service, i instaled it very carefully with full path of config file and service name.  every thing was fine, it appears in consol, but when i tried to start the service, it gave me these 2 errors, some times 1067 and some times 1053. all things are okay in registry and instalation, problem in starting the service only. plz help me

1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
1067 The process terminated unexpectedly.

I'm presuming you're using the exe you got from your friend.

You should be running it with the -ntservice option, rather than trying to create the service yourself.  The -ntservice option tells Squide to create and run the service.

Also, run it from a DOS box - Squid writes messages to both stdout and stderr.

p.s., I don't really know anything about Squid, I'm just looking at the source I downloaded from:
http://albaweb.albacom.net/acmeconsulting.it/download/squid-2.5.STABLE6-NT-CVS.zip

which was linked to from:
http://www.acmeconsulting.it/SquidNT/
(from which you may want to download the latest executables yourself (in case your friend fiddled with it)
