lost two hard drives at same time in windows 2000 server raid 5

they are ibm scsi 18.2 gb drives.

I have 6 drives total, and now two of them stoped working at the same stinking time.

so, now I have 4 that are in there that spin up, 2 that are in there that dont spin up, and 3 more on the shelf that are in ????? condition that I could use to replace them.

they were in software raid 5 under windows 2000 server.

is there any hope ?

Put them drives in and rebuild them. Should be fine might take some time though the rebuild.

BTW Lots of hope should be just fine but the software rebuild will take a long long time sometimes 24 HR range. I lost 2 in a Fiber Channel array and they took almost a day to rebuild. It was also software because I was using a SUN array.

it sees the two new hard drives, but it has a yellow exclamation, and says they are foreign.
should I "import foreign disks' ?

Let me think they have to be online or active. In MMC add the disk managment snap in if you already havent. Give me a few minutes I have to remember exactly what it is called.

LOL I got it DYNAMIC lol Dynamic Disk. They have to be converted to dynamic Disk. Select the Drives and there is on a right click somewhere in there to rebuild array. I wish I had my server in front of me my KVM switch died so I cannot get on my servers until monday. Let me know how you make out should be pretty easy to do. Thanks ,Joe

yea, take your time. find your upc, I am using the adaptec CTRL+A Util to low level format the two new drives, I unpluged the other 4 just to be safe...
they are 18.2 gb so might be an hour before they are done formating.

I found the mmc by right clicking on 'my computer' and going to 'manage'
then the disk management snapin.
