Windows 2K Server needs to have AD, but I cannot get it to add

Three servers (1 connected as member with ad, 1 Windows 2k3 server as DC, and I have just reformatted a Windows 2K server and added it as a member server.).

I have attempted to add the newly formatted Win2K memberserver with AD, but AD will not load. It tells me that it cannot be contacted. Ensure that the DNS domain name is typed correctly. This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem, etc...

I have checked and added the DNS for the domain controller. The IP and Wins is setup correctly. Any ideas?

run both netdiag and dc diag on all DCs and the one you want to promote (not sure if DC Diag works on a member server though, so maybe not that one).  Report any errors that you find.

i am doing this remotely, so I cannot install netdiag. I tried to run it, but it's not located on the server. I attempted to run dc diag on the Domain Controller, but it did not work. All it did was show periods and freeze up. Anything simple and conventional?

Install TightVNC (www.tightvnc.com) to allow remote access to the console (it's just like you are sitting in front of the server).

I have Microsoft Terminal Services, which is not a problem. I just cannot get the memberserver to see the domain controller.

Are the DNS settings on the member servers correct?  They should be pointed to the domain controllers and nowhere else.  If you have one as a domain controller and one as any other DNS server, you will still have problems, but they will just be a little less frequent and harder to troubleshoot as they will be somewhat random...
