Hi there...

Installed Fedora Core 2 on my Dell Inspiron 8200 yesterday and really like it... had a few blips including getting my wireless to work but so far so good.

As a backup to when  I don't have broadband access, I need to get my built-in modem working.  I'm presuming it's a Winmodem of some type.

Looking for help on getting this modem going... really need it working. ;)  I searched google a bit on this topic and the general feedback gives me some drivers to download but they don't seem to work.

Anyone have any suggestions?

See http://www.isrec.isb-sib.ch/~agrosdid/fedora_dell.html for one way to make the on-board modem work. That reference is for Fedora Core 1, but it should be similar for Core 2.

I"m trying to find a way to make it work without rebuilding my entire kernel just to support the modem.  I tried this method and it works as long as i"m willing to recompile... I'd rather now in this particular case..

Is there a pcmcia modem that I could purchase that won't provide this grief? :)

Sure, any of the non-winmodems types should work fine, for example http://www.techadvice.com/help/Products/P/pcmcia-modems.asp

Thanks for your input.. I'm going to order a non-winmodem.. it's not worth the hassle...:)
