If you want you can make Certificates your self.

Just install a Certificate Authorithy on a Windows Server that has IIS installed already (for Security reasons not the Webserver).
If you only want to use it for Webserver Auth. just take Stand-Alone Root CA.

On your Webserver create a Certificate Request file :  Right-click your Web-site in IIS --> go to Tab "Directory security" --> click "Server Certificate" --> follow on screen instruction --> make request file.

Open IE and browse to http://%certificateAuthorithyserver%/certsrv
Create new Certificate Request upload file (or copy paste)
Open Certificate Authority MMC on CA issue certificate and download certificate(.cer file).

Import certificate in Webserver
Right-click your Web-site in IIS --> go to Tab "Directory security" --> click "Server Certificate" --> follow on screen instruction --> process pending certificate request.
Import .cer file

And your site has a certificate.

All your users have to have the public root certificate --> you can export it from your CA mmc
and import it in the users IE.

Koen
