Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN

My HP LaserJet 1300, hooked up to an XP pro system, has a personality disorder and prints the above message instead of the desired document. Turning the computer/printer off and back on does not seem to help. The test page prints correctly. What is the problem?

I've tried the these drivers and other drivers and I am still getting the error on the same printer.Anyone else have any ideas?
