use an imagelist and the toolbar controls.  Set the toolbar buttons to the images in the list then to use them.

Private Sub toolBar_ButtonClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ToolBarButtonClickEventArgs) Handles toolBar.ButtonClick

intIndex = e.Button.ImageIndex() 'Gets the imageIndex for which button is pressed

if intIndex = 0 then
'do this
else if intIndex =2
'do this
end if

end sub
