R6018 unexpected heap error

We are running Reports 2.5 on a 9i database.  One report has a before report trigger which inserts data into a table, the report selects data from this table and the after report trigger deletes data from this table.

When we run this report on Screen, the results are shown and when we close the report we get a R6018 -  unexpected heap error.  When we choose File option also, we get the same error although the file gets created.  In both cases, the table in which data is inserted does not have the data so the after report trigger is getting fired.

After this error, the system has to be abnormally closed.

I checked on metalink and found a Note 1029601.6

We have a good IBM server and all other reports are running fine.

Reports 2.5 is too old for running with 9i. Especially if you use AL32UTF8 character set.
Soon you will need migration. Why you do not start the migration process now?

Thanks, schwertner, I agree with you we should migrate.  In the meanwhile, can you give me some pointers about how can I get more info on the character set and what implications does that have ?  We are having a Linux server.  How do i Check the character set of the server
