What is the syntax to copy (put or mput I guess) all files AND directories/subdirectores AND any files in those subdirectories from one server to another?
Or, is there a better alternative than FTP?
Thx

No ftp doesn't.
A better alternative is to install ssh (www.openssh.org) and use scp (secure copy) with -r for recursive directories.  ssh / sftp / scp are better than standard ftp / telnet / rcp as they are encrypted.  If you down't care about security you could use rcp.

If you wany to regulary keep files on two severs in sync, your can use rsync (http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/) which can be tunnelled over ssh
