I was given a laptop that once belonged to a .com-bomb biz and old networking info was or is still on it...Well, I was trying to clean theis stuff out, and now I have no idea how, but I've locked myself out of the machine.  The username and pw I was given no longer work & I'm trapped at the logon screen.  Please help.  I need a no-cost and user-friendly solution...Thank you.

Hello lynzeke,  here are a few things you can try:

Forgot the Administrator's Password
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

if you read through this it will tell you how to make a bootdisk either from a floppy or a cd-rw that will allow you to remove the lockout status of the administrator.

Forgot the Administrator's Password
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
this can reset passwords but it should also be able to REMOVE the DISABLED status

ERD Commander 2003
http://www.winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/erdcommander2002.asp

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

go here and read
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
and then get the bootdisk: instructions and image
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bd040116.zip
unzip it and put a blank formatted floppy in your drive and double click on install.bat, it will create the folppy to boot to
boot up to it, and follow the instructions on
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Hope these suggestions help you....
