PC Infected - Cant run Software

Hello Guyz,

I'm stucked within one of the major problems happening with my PC. I installed the latest "Panda Antivirus Platinum" just today from download.com. It installed successfully but amazed to see that whenever I try to run the software, its main window opens and then closes immediately. I am using CuteFTP software for FTP transfer with my domain. It even is not working after the installation of antivirus software but was working properly before the installation. The CuteFTP reports me to remove the virus first and then asks for its installation once more time. A few softwares r even not working correctly. My aim is to remove all bugs n virsus from my PC. I'm currently using Windows XP in my organization. Now plz let me know how could I help the Panda Antivirus Software to run and work properly. Do guide me plzzzz....

Sounds like you may already have a virus that isn't allowing Panda to run.

Try running stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ then reboot and see if you can run Panda.  Once you get Panda running, don't forget to update it.

Other tips:
You may need to disable System Restore if it seems like the virus comes back each time you reboot.
If you have trouble accessing antivirus sites, open the file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in notepad, and delete any entries similar to the following:

127.0.0.1     www.symantec.com
0.0.0.0        www.someantivirussite.com

(but leave 127.0.0.1    localhost)
