Epson printers not printing on server

There are 50+ computers in my building connected to a server running OS9.2. The server software is appleshare 6.3.  The computers are running OS 9.1 and OS 9.2. Epson printers (C80 and 980N) are connected to the network by ethernet cable and print servers.  Sometimes users select their printers and the print job does not occur or a print message appears on another workstation.  No matter how many times I select the printer, it does not print.  I find this odd when the printer was working five minutes earlier.  What is happening?

Is the any chance of updating to OS X? OS 9 is so old, and so problematic.

I recently took over this particular network, and I have already made the recommendation to my boss who seems to be in agreement. Most of the workstations are G3's. The server is a G4.  If I upgraded to OS X on the G3's along with the server, what are the system memory requirements?  Graphics software will be used on the workstations(just to give you a little information).

OS X needs at least 256mb, but that doesnt leave much room for things like Photoshop. I'd say 512 at least if not more. Ram is cheap anyway.
