Have you tried downloading a trial of FME from safe software?  I think the license is good for about 60 days.  Have a universal viewer that will let you view your data in any format including DTED.

Here is a list of supported formats:
http://www.safe.com/products/fme/formats/index.php?axn=DS

Here is the link to download:

By the way what is up with the "if don't understand  just dont care" stuff?  We are all trying to help each other out.  No need to catch an attitude when you need help.  Just an observation.

Have a good day.

Hi Cwise

I didint try the FME software but I am doenloading now.
hopefully it'll work as I like it.
but it's size is very large, and also in need registration (not free) and work for 14 days not "60 days"

regarding the !stuff! you are taking about, I think DTED has three formats 0 ,1 and 2 and all has some diff. also level 0 is the only free to download.

sorry if make problem here.

No worries.  I use FME to process alot of our data into different formats or to change projections.  It is a good piece of software.  I have run into this problem in the past.  Most free peices of software really lack alot of functionality you are probably looking for.  DTED is not a very common GIS format that I have run across.  Kick the tires on FME a little.  Maybe you can talk your boss into it if it does the trick ;)
