Apart from yahoo messenger, are you able to browse the internet and check emails fine , or in other words is the internet connection fine

Are you behing any proxy ?

Have you tried to uninstall yahoo messenger and install the latest version of the same ?

Make sure your firewall is not blocking any ports which yahoo messenger uses

uninstall yahoo messenger from add/remove programs

Navigate to registry
and look for sub-keys here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

and remove everything pertaining to yahoo messenger

go to messenger.yahoo.com and download and install the latest one
restart your machine and check if yahoo messenger logs in fine
