DirectX & C++

Hi all,
how would I go about using DirectX in C++?
Any links, or ANYTHING related would be much appreciated.

You see; I just recently got a new book (on offer, that's why I bought it), it's a great book; "Special effects game programming in DirectX".
However, the code it uses as examples, isn't a whole program. And I don't know how to go about using it in my own programs... :o\

ANY DirectX related help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
