The company is using Exchange 2000 server.  Outlook 2000 is installed on the workstation with this issue.  Incoming e-mail automatically opens when received from either outside or inside of the organization . No one else in the organization has this problem.

Your help is appreciated.

When you say automatically opens , does the new email open up in a new window like when you double-click on it from the preview pane or the new email becomes READ and no longer bold.

Make sure there is no rule set for that specific user.

If there are no rules set , then probably something to do with his or her profile
