Error 678 - cannot be connected

Q: If the PC shows an error msg "Error 678" when dialing up 56k, how to solve ?

The PC is running win98, and maybe 1 out of 10 times, the internet is connected, but most of the time, there is error msg: Error 678. How to solve ?

Your modem is faulting before the handshake or wrong ISP phone number or phone line problem.

Start by creating a "modem log" . Then you can post the log here for review. Heres how:

After the modem log is initiated, here's a step by step Explanation for checking faults:

It would really help if you gave us the # off the modem so we can identify it and any known faults.
