Outlook rule – on receipt of new email go to URL+MessageSubject
Hi
When a new email is received I’d like Outlook to go to a url (and append the message subject to the URL)
Eg. http://192.168.0.66/displaytext?text= A+new+message+subject
(this will display the subject “A new message subject” on my TV via the Tivo).
Thanks for any help..
AJ
BTW –
I’ve created a simple rule which executes a CMD script to display a basic message, but it doesn’t pass the subject and is very messy…
-> "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
http://192.168.0.66/displaytext?text=A+new+email+arrived

Not sure how far this can help
Create a shortcut in your desktop or wherever
right-click on desktop
go to new --> shortcut
and in the properties give this
start "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.google.com ( change google to your 192.***)
Press OK and come out
Now when this shortcut opens , it wont open any CMD window..

Just wanted to know that without the subject part, can you make google page open or your page open on your TV once you get an email. Have you tested that ?

Sr.. Yes.. see the BTW in the original questions.. .. I'm sure the shortcut would work also - maybe a little cleaner.. perhaps be able to run minimized etc.. I appreciate your input.. AJ
ajosephson,
Hm. I wish i had got your setup to test and play with it. Trying to think what would be other ideas ...

SR, see https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21103446/MS-Outlook-VBA-to-launch-a-browser-and-or-goto-a-URL.html maybe you can help? AJ

Yes, it opens Internet Explorer with the URL http://192.168.0.66/displaytext?text=A+new+email+arrived in the address field
This executes a script on the TIVO web server, which in turn displays the text "A new email arrived" on the TV.
(The black CMD window remains open until the IE session is closed - is slow, messy etc..).
It'd be great not to have to open a browser and to be able to pass the subject.. :-/
