OS X 10.5.3 Help has no search text box

Have just upgraded to OS X 10.5.3 and the help menu has no search text box!

The help menu item opens a single panel with selections for "OS X help", new users etc.  The OS X help has a list of items on left but no search text box,

In the upper right corner is an oblong horizontal button. Hit it.
