Hi

Tablspaces are logical storage objects for storing physical database objects. It gives flexibility and provides a logical design which is independent of the phyical structure.

E.g/  Assume thant you want to create a db table with name t1. And you created t1 on tbs1 which includes data file c:\datafiles\db1.ora

After sometime you wanted to transfer your data to your d:\ drive. if there isn't tablespaces you will have to recreate your table. With tablespaces ypu can transfer your datafiles and that's it. You don't have to worry about the logical db design. Whatever the physical environment it is always same.

Regards,
Erhan
