Hi,

There are several solutions:
1) In the Field Definition, check "Unique value" under "Options..." (you can even have a custom message when someone tries to enter a duplicate)
2) You can search for already present duplicate records in a field, by writing "!" in the field.
3) You can create a script that removes or marks duplicate records based on exactly what you consider duplicate (for example, if the first 5 characters are the same, or if 2 fields are the same in 2 records.) After marking, you can go through them manually and remove.

I usually use a combination of all 3 above when I work with FM. I define the database as good as possible - so people never enter exact duplicates. I run from time to time a check on for example adresses (that is ok if they are duplicates) to see if records are duplicates, but for example the names are misspellt. And if I have imported many records, I use a script to find imported duplicates and remove them automatically.

hope that helps!

(I use a Swedish FileMaker, so I cannot give exact menu/button names. Sorry.)

Whatever. No replies from the one who asks a question is sooo irritating. I believe my suggestions would have solved the problem, but now, no one can tell.
