This link has the motherboard drivers.  You can get an updated version of Windows XP by using Windows Update to download any updates at windowsupdate.microsoft.com and if you are feeling inclined to do so maybe download the install for Service Pack 2.  As for the BIOS, I would not suggest updating unless you are in need of some extra features and normally the vendor in this case e-machines would put out a bios update and it appears they have not...

do you mean the version of XP....?  This will not update after every update...most likely it will only update once you install SP2....

Where are you seeing this?  Also, it is a driver all it does is update the software...the software may already be the software you have in which case the update will just re-install but not cause any update of version.

I just reformated and reinstalled Win XP Pro on my son's S1642 emachine   and then had all kinds of problems with anything USB being plugged in causing a system crash.  After every type of driver update I could find I decided perhaps a bios flash might help. But I couldn't find any type of bios update on their site so I emailed customer support.  The answer was to call a 1-800 number and order a bios upgrade disk for $49.95.  This is supposed to upgrade the Award bios on the motherboard from an emachine stripped down version to a full ACPI 2.0 version with a 1 year support.
Here's the info if you are interested in paying for an update.
