Oracle10G AS startup problem and help regarding dcmctl updateconfig command

I have setup OracleAS 10G as following:
OracleAS 10G Infrastructure components:
Metadata Repositrory: Machine m1
Identity Components: Machine m2

OracleAS 10G MiddleTier on m1

All the components were running fine.

For Integration purpose, I manually changed httpd.conf file on m2 and restarted the http server on m2.This worked fine.
Later I modified the sso/conf/policy.properties file and restarted the OC4J_Security instance. However this failed with error "SSO: DB Error. Please make sure the database is available and restart SSO Server

04/08/24 15:12:49 oracle.security.sso.server.util.DBException: Empty DB connect string. Could not create DB connection pool .
SSO: FAILED TO START SSO SERVER! ".

I reverted back the changes made to both the files are restart the services,However again both OC4J_Security and SSO failed.

On m1 I tried restarting the Metadata repository ASControl instance. But this failed with error ""Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in
a timely fashion."
Same happened for Middle tier ASControl instance on m1.

Am trying to run "dcmctl.bat updateconfig -v" command on m1 for metadata repository instance and on m2 for identity AS instance.

Do I need to execute any other command before executing this? Like 'dcmctl.bat start/stop'. Also around how much max time should this command take to execute? For me control is not returning back for around past 45 min.

Any other way to get the system up and stable?

Any help on this highly appreciated :)

Thanks
Aarati

Hi Aarati,

What changes did you make to the policy.properties file. Try running dcmctl updateConfig -ct oc4j.
If this succeeds, then restart the Listener and the Database from the command line.

Let me know if OC4J_Security starts still returns the same errors.

Hi Poornima,

I was trying to change the 'MediumSecurity_AuthPlugin' value. I have written a class for Authentication and had given path of this  class.

Now I have reverted back to original.

As yuo had suggested I tried starting only the oc4j instance. But no success :(.
I tries other commands ' dcmctl get state', ' dcmctl listapplications' but these too landup in a nonending loop.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Aarati,

Do an opmnctl stopall followed by an opmncl startall. This will update the changes to the config files.
Check if this brings up oc4j_security succesfully.

when you modified these files, always remember to run "dcmctl updateConfig" right away, OR you will be at risk of corrupting infrastructure repository.

try to shutdown every thing now,

and reboot the machine m1 and m2,

then bring up the components in the following order:

1.start listener and  Infra database on m1,
2.start  identity component on m2,
3. start middle tier on m1.

make sure to obey the sequence of the above commands

fix data-sources.xml of your OC4J

Verify that your listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file is using the port 1521. This should be the default port that should be configured.

Make sure that your machine is configured with a fully qualified domain name.

Have you run the pre-install scripts before installing Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2.0.1? If not, I suggest you do a clean deinstall Oracle 9iAS, run the pre-install scripts, and then install Oracle 9iAS. The pre-install scripts allows to scan your system, and make sure that the necessary requirements are configured.
