nettcpip.inf might show as nettcpip (with extension hidden)

Secondly, try WinsockXPFix tool
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

It's a compressed file in the I386 folder in XP CD.

named "NETTCPIP.IN_". You need to use the expand command to output file name nettcpip.inf.

So basically if i am not able to install tcp/ip from c:\windows\inf
That should i give the path in have disk for cd rom drive so that i can install it form cd.
Coz whenever i just put the disk in the cd rom drive and give the location of cdrom drive it cannot find that file on the disk.

What exactly happens when you rightclick the C:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf and choose "Install" ?

you need to mention the location as D:\I386 (where d:\ is your cd=rom)
