MBSA - Other Alternative Tool to check for available Windows Update???

OK, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer does an extensive scan of different Windows components which is quite impressive.

But it only does SECURITY Updates scan though (very disappointing) and not CRITICAL Updates.  I manually did a Windows Update scan and compared with MBSA results and it missed quite a few security/critical updates.

I was hoping I could centrally "mimick" the Windows Update for several and get the exact same results as if I ran it manually from the workstation.

How do you do it.  Any suggestions???

The full blown version handles all service packs, patches, office packs and exchange patches, sql patches as well as quite a few others. I purchased and maintain a 100 count license, just for the servers in production. It does a pretty good job of keeping everything up to date. It looks like the next version of Microsoft's SUS, WUS will be able to handle most of that as well, and it will be free. If it ever gets released!

Look into SUS, Systems update services. This should be a solution for you.

Well, the hfnetchk at www.shavlik.com is exactly the tool that comes with MBSA as well which can be used by using a commnad-line based switches.

Disappointing how MBSA is limited in what it scans.  If it collects exactly the same updates available as Windows Update did...Bob is my uncle!

p.s. Did you download the Free Version of Shvlik HFNetCheckPro Admin Suite, or just the command line scanner. If it was just the command line scanner, download the Admin Suite...
