### Closing the old questions in Delphi###

Hello experts,

As you had probably noticed, there is an organized effort to get all the abandoned questions closed (abandoned question is a question that has not comments for 22 or more days). This way we move the really answered questions in the PAQs and delete the nonanswered ones. And of course all the experts that had answered questions get their points - although it is not the Primary function of the cleanup, it is something that is also a plus:).

If you are interested in helping, please read this:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hs7

If you are still interested, please post here with whatever questions you may have for the process. In case you decode it is not for you - please if you see such recommendation in a question that you had participated in, take your time to object if needed or to post your opinion if you are asked for it.

Thanks in advance to anyone that will decide to help.

If you want to help in another area, check the area for such question, post here specifying the area or send me a mail.

Hi,
I'd like to help, But I don't qualify by rules mentiond in http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi85  jet.

I also would like to skip questions about Databases. We are developing GIS sistem, and after a lot of problems using database stuf, we decided to wite our own database, so we know exactly what is happening. So I don't want to even think about BDE, ... I would be wery happy if Delphi-Database would be subchannel of delphi.

So here is an example of my understanding of how to close questions. First ten days in february 2004.

http:Q_20879894.html --> Accept: knightmad {10333852}

skip lines I skiped due to database relation.

If that is ok with you, I can continue like this for real. With notify messages posted in questions and above lines posted in cleanup channnel.

I would also recomend some expert poins for cleanup efforts. I think 10 points per message would be appropriate, since it takes expert knolidge and a lot of work to do it.

Regards Aleš.

Hi,

I have no problem doing cleanup for free. It vas just a suggestion to recognize work of CV.

I started my activities on 4. Jan 04. I registered first time 6 months ago. So I don't have much activity as an expert. I just came over 10000 ex. points. So I know I don't qualify according to the rules as I mentioned in first post.
> I'd like to help, But I don't qualify by rules mentioned in http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi85  jet.

I did NOT do ANYTHING, Since I am not CV and was not assigned a range. I didn't post anything in the messages. I just posted here (not in Cleanup) how I understand the process of cleanup (What to do with a question (delete, accept, split, PAQ,...)). So you can see if I am able to decide what to do with a question, or to correct me if I didn't understand everything.

Regards Aleš

AnnieMod,
I don't really know Delphi, but with my generic Windows programming background, I think I could do a pretty good job of cleanup here.

I'm currently in "maintenance mode" on my other assigned TAs and I'm waiting for their Open Questions lists to build up before I start my next pass (it's more efficient to do groups of several hundred in a batch)...  So I'm ready for a new large-scale assignment if you want my help here.

>> when you get 300+ notifs in one day from the Cleanup in one area, you in most cases just ignore them

In the past, when there were 6000 open questions in a TA that had never been pinged, I think that might have been a problem.

In the current situation, if I ping, say, 300 questions, it would be very unlikely that any single Expert would have posted in all of them -- or even 10% of them.  If he did post so consistently in so many abandoned questions, then perhaps that is the reason the questions were abandoned -- his comments must be very unhelpful to the askers :)

For the Experts who get a modest number of notifs in a ping run -- say something like 30 -- I don't think it is a great burden for them to take some time to help finalize those questions.  It *is* true that they do tend to get more than the 30 notifs -- they can expect to see some "Good Answer!" and "Answer Accepted" notifs, as well as personalized "thank you" posts from Askers who had forgotten to award the points.  I think it will help the Experts to review their past comments to learn from the experience.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I see 97 open questions in that range (Delphi Jan-04)  I agree that would be a good test run.  I'll start on it soon.

I've looked at a few and it does appear that some will be over my head, but I should be able to clear the majority.  We'll find out in a few days.

It is very common for a CV to not know which (if any) comment is the correct answer -- even if the CV knows the language inside and out.  That is because a CV simply does not have the time to test the various suggestions.

In some cases, there is reason to believe that multiple comments would be useful in the PAQ, even when no specific comment stands out as -- or can be verified as -- the correct answer.  In that situation, and when no Expert has claimed the points in 4 days, I will occasionally recommend PAQ.  If the Asker was not active at the end, I post that as PAQ/no-refund.  Even if I don't know which (if any) is the correct answer.

Is there a specific question you would like to debate?  Are you sure that a debate would be a useful expenditure of our time?  Maybe we should just push on and get this TA cleaned.

AnnieMod,

>> I see - speed is more important to you than quality. I am not really sure I like this attitude

If you are going to claim that Venabilli and Turn123 and TheLearnedOne personally verify every single answer in which they post a recommendationj, then frankly, I am going to Laugh Out Loud.

A quick survey of TheLearnedOne's recommendations indicate that he is taking between 10 and 20 SECONDS to make each of his recommendations.  You will be hard pressed to convince me that he put together a test application, ran every piece of program code in every suggestion by every Expert and/or downloaded and tried every piece of sample code at every link before coming to make those recommendations.

The fact is that the best we CVs can do is review the comments and make a quick judgment, based on the information that is immediately available.  Get real.  And stop treating me like some child that needs to have his hand held to cross the street.  Do you know how irritating that is?

AnnieMod,
I have finished the range (Jan-04).  modulo finalized them -- without any apparent problems with my recommendations.  If you would like me to continue with Delphi, please give me a range of at least 500 Qs so I can do some uninterrupted work.  Thanks :)
