### Closing the old questions in PHP###

Hello experts,

As you had probably noticed, there is an organized effort to get all the abandoned questions closed (abandoned question is a question that has not comments for 22 or more days). This way we move the really answered questions in the PAQs and delete the nonanswered ones. And of course all the experts that had answered questions get their points - although it is not the Primary function of the cleanup, it is something that is also a plus:).

If you are interested in helping, please read this:

If you are still interested, please post here with whatever questions you may have for the process. In case you decode it is not for you - please if you see such recommendation in a question that you had participated in, take your time to object if needed or to post your opinion if you are asked for it.

Thanks in advance to anyone that will decide to help.

If you want to help in another area, check the area for such question, post here specifying the area or send me a mail.

I'll take a swing at it.  Question: If it's on the border between accept and delete, which way should we lean?

Seems to be boring.. =) Is it automated somehow?
I think we should run some robot to leave comments at least, so people can get mail and recall, that they have a question to be closed.

AnnieMod ,
You've tried to ping questions and then decided not to do that? Why?
There a lot of questions people just forgot about. Like this dated February 2003:

I still think, that all questions should be pinged before being reviewed by volunteers. It helps to determine real state of thread and increases chances that it will be PAQed. Just IMHO. =)

I haven't decided yet. Can I SPAM a bit more? =)

> NEVER work on quetsions I had not assigned to you. Am I clear?
Not really. Is that means that while I'm caught up in Cleanup Initiative I can't answer new questions? =\

Is there any instruments for automating task like DHTML button for selecting, filling and posting recommendation template?
Is there a page for review/submit complete recommendations to CleanUp area?

April 03 is done, and I was assiduous in keeping lists to 35 questions or less.  I'll take another range, but I won't be back to work on it until after Labor Day.

Because I've been so instructed, I will continue to evaluate the questions and try to make a good judgement call.  However, why not mark them all delete - no refund?  Active experts or askers can object and get their points, while questions with no interested parties will disappear.  Yes, we will lose some questions that might have been worthwhile in the PAQ.  However, only a minute fraction of these abandoned questions are anything original.  90% or more (probably closer to 99%) are duplicates of questions I've seen many times, which indicates the PAQ isn't doing its job anyway.  Bloating it further will not help.  The only value added for the site owners is an increased count of answers in their database.  If I were an investor, I'd rather see a PAQ of 1000 rock-solid unique answers than a PAQ of 3 million duplicated, untested answers to poorly written questions.

As I said, I'll continue to follow the cleanup guidelines.  Just voicing my opinion.

Because this way we will loose good questions and answers. This cleanup really adds in teh database unique solutions. If you do not like the idea of teh cleanup - I suppose you better do not participate. Because when you think like this, I will need to check every single delete recomemndation thatyou post....
There is something else - sometimes two questioons which are the same receive different opinions. You never know what exactly will help to the next guy....
It will be a shame to loose a good answer only because teh expert had been on a vacation... or because the expert is no more active. Points are not the main reason for the cleanup.... and you look from this angle. if the most important thing was who takes the points - well... your proposal may work. But the idea is to add the solutions in the database.

However - post here when you are back and if you will work as it is supposed to - posting real recommendations.
