smart card reader won't recognize smart card

Hi Kids:

I have an Acer TravelMate C300 running XP SP2. I'm trying to install a smart card application that came with the notebook (Platinum Secret), but the program won't recognize when the smart card is inserted to initialize the program (password, etc). I've tried to update the driver from Microsoft and even rollback the driver to the one that shipped with the computer, but all with the same results.

The built-in smart card reader is an 02Micro SmardCard Bus Reader.

Think SP2 might be the problem? I hate to unistall SP2. It pretty much put a whole new operating system (Tablet PC edition) on the notebook that is much better than the original.

Thanks!

There are lots of problems being reported with SP2, so if you want to eliminate that as the source of this problem, uninstall it.  You could also try it in a machine that doesn't have SP2, if that's possible.
