xp_readmail: failed with operating system error 80

Hi, all,

Query:

declare @msg_id varchar(255)
declare @xml nvarchar(4000)
declare @attach nvarchar(4000)
EXEC      master..xp_findnextmsg @msg_id = @msg_id OUTPUT
EXEC      master..xp_readmail    @msg_id = @msg_id,
                               @attachments =      @attach      OUTPUT
print @attach

Result:

Server: Msg 18024, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_readmail: failed with operating system error 80

We keep getting this error. The proc which reads the mail used to work fine but has recently stopped. So, I ran the above query and the error returned is the result.

We are running SQL 2000 sp3.
The SQL Mail user is a domain admin who has access to the Exchange mailbox.
Interestingly, xp_findnextmsg and xp_sendmail both work ok. It's only xp_readmail which fails.

Help pleeeeez!!!

I don't know what was wrong, but I deleted the existing mail from the mailbox.
When I sent new mail I was able to process this ok.

itsvtk,

your answers refer to fixing the problem by installing the latest service pack.
As I stated earlier we have sp3 installed.
sp3a only really relates to the setup routine.

...also I already found those sites and they don't help.
Anyway, check my earlier comment - problem over.
